2. How can we preserve the Urhobo language among
our children in the diaspora?

To preserve the Urhobo language, it is important to speak it regularly at home, organise language classes within the community, and use Urhobo during cultural events. Encouraging children to converse with their elders and participate in traditional storytelling can also help keep the language alive.

3. What traditional Urhobo festivals can
we celebrate in the UK?

Urhobo festivals and Igbore (traditional marriage ceremonies) can be celebrated in the UK. These events can be adapted to the local environment by involving the community, sharing the significance of the festivals, and ensuring they are celebrated with the appropriate customs.

4. How can we support one another as an Urhobo community in the UK?

Support can be provided through forming and participating in Urhobo associations, organising cultural events, and creating support networks for new immigrants. Additionally, helping each other with career advice, education, and navigating life in the UK strengthens the community bond.

Balancing integration involves embracing British culture while not losing touch with Urhobo heritage. This can be achieved by actively participating in British society, such as in schools and workplaces, while also preserving Urhobo traditions at home and within the community.
